These tortoise brooches (Petersen type 51), were the most popular type of the Viking Age, with samples surviving from almost all areas of Viking settlement.
Just like the originals, these are painstakingly produced from a separately-cast base and top piece, with additional silver wire and studs.
Exceptionally fine and delicate, they are surprisingly lightweight.
I have chosen to combine a contrasting bronze top with a silver base, and reduced the original size by about 20%.
