Normally worn in pairs by women, a lighter alternative to the tortoise brooches. Strap end brooches have been found in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Iceland. They originated as plundered Frankish belt ends, converted into brooches by the Vikings for their women, before becoming a home-produced type. This is a copy from an original from Norway, 10th century.
