Copied from several examples found in Norway, Sweden and Iceland, 9th - 10th century. Very fine work, lightweight but strong.

Worn by women in pairs. This example (Petersen type 51), is the most widespread type, found all over the viking world. Late 9th, early 10th century. They are carved as delicately as possible and cast as one piece for maximum lightness, with contrasting silver wire decoration and silver studs. They are also about 20% smaller than most originals.

Copy of an original from Norway mid 9th century with exuberant gripping beast design. Partially hollow-backed.

Normally worn in pairs by women, a lighter alternative to the tortoise brooches. Strap end brooches have been found in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Iceland. The originated as plundered Frankish belt ends, converted into brooches by the Vikings for their women, before becoming a home-produced type. This is a copy from an original from Norway, 10th century.

These were worn in pairs by Gotlandic women. This example is a copy of a late 11th century/early 12th century find in the beautiful Urnes style. Unlike the originals, the pattern on my piece is cut all the way through, for a lighter effect.
